Premise: writing in public has the following personal value propositions.

  1. Writing out my thoughts helps clarify those thoughts. Writing is, in this sense, like speaking aloud. I think writing is less effective than teaching in this regard, but it doesn't require an audience so that's a big benefit.
  2. Writing is a tool for breaking up projects. Pondering a marathon walk, it's hard to take the first step. Pondering a trip down the block, it's much easier. Serializing a project in writing is like turning a marathon into 520 trips down the block (your mileage may very).
  3. Writing promotes regular progress. Corollary to point 2, committing to writing at a regular cadence means I must have some material to present in each post. That means I must do something between each post.
  4. Writing is a tool for connection. Writing in public has the potential to connect me with other like-interested folks. Meeting other people with similar interests is invigorating. Getting to help people always feels good. Community is great.

In light of all of this value, I'm going to be publishing here every two weeks. Posts will range from project updates, to things I'm thinking about and want to put into writing.

Another term for this is "working with the garage door up" but I don't have a garage, so let's call it working with the front door open.
